Recently, a list of the top beach destinations for the summer season was featured in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Couples who are looking to get away may want to take a peek at the list, which features some of the most luxurious destinations for travelers interested in romance.

Among the top 10 beaches for the 2011 season are Siesta Beach in Florida, Coronado Beach in California and Main Beach in New York. However, one of the most overlooked locations is Kahanamoku Beach in Hawaii. This Honolulu locale made it into the number three spot on the list, but it did not receive top honors.

The Waikiki area is full of white sandy beaches for couples who are looking for a tropical getaway that may not necessarily be on the 2011 list. A number of snorkeling tours are offered in the area, allowing travelers to engage with local sea life for a memorable experience. If you don't want to get wet, consider visiting the Waikiki Aquarium for a similar opportunity to interact with nature.

The Honolulu Zoo is also home to some of the region's rare native creatures. It is worth checking out in between watching the sun set and indulging in local Hawaiian cuisine.
