There is nothing worse than getting to a vacation destination and finding that the seawater is less than pristine. Not only can a dirty ocean be unsightly, but it can cause skin irritation for swimmers. But travelers to Hawaii needn't worry, because the Ocean State's beaches were named some of the cleanest in the U.S., according to Honolulu Star-Advertiser.
For travelers to the region, this may come as a relief. The 21st annual beach water quality report released by the Natural Resources Defense Council showed that Hawaii had the fourth cleanest waters among the 30 coastal states tested.
"Clean beach water is not only good for public health, it supports healthy coastal economies that generate billions of dollars and support millions of American jobs," David Beckman, director of the NRDC Water Program, told the news source.
There are many sights worth seeing in the Honolulu area, aside from the clean sandy beaches. The Hawaiian city is a short drive from Pearl Harbor, which has a facility dedicated to the attack that brought the U.S. into World War II.
The Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve is also located near Honolulu, which gives visitors the opportunity to snorkel alongside native ocean creatures.
