Honeymooners who make a summertime stop in Florence, Italy, during a European vacation are able to see some of the best dancers in Italy when the city hosts the annual Florence Dance Festival.
Performances of ballet, tango, flamenco and contemporary street dancing are staged each year in the courtyard of the National Museum of the Bargello, located at 4 Via del Bargello. The Florence Dance Company, Ballet South and Balletto di Roma will be among the featured dance troupes at this year's event through July 19.
Florence is a city made for lovers with its romantic, narrow streets leading to churches, palaces and monuments. Its historic city center is a World Heritage Site, with the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore (Duomo) at its heart.
The famed Ponte Vecchio (Old Bridge), known for the collection of shops that populate the span, dates from medieval times and crosses the river at its narrowest point. The views from this bridge and other spans nearby, both in daylight and lit up at night, are among the most breathtaking in Italy.
Florence, steeped in Renaissance art and architecture, is also known for the masterpieces at the Uffizi Gallery, Michelangelo's David at the Academy Gallery and countless smaller museums and galleries throughout the city.
