Taos, New Mexico, is known for its unique landscape and rich heritage. The 37th Annual Taos Fall Festival is sure to live up to both of those reputations.
The festival is held from the end of September into early October, and celebrates the artists in Taos County. Local artists and visitors gather to showcase the works of up-and-coming talents, share ideas and sell their artwork. The largest festival in Taos, the event welcomes art from all genres including contemporary painting and drawing, mixed media, abstract photography and furniture. The festival concludes with an awards ceremony for the Best of Show and four Awards of Excellence.
Continuing with the traditions of the region, the Wool Festival at Taos is held the first full weekend in October and showcases the art and craft of creating with wool. The event includes a wool market full of regional vendors displaying their artistic pieces, demonstrations on shearing and dying, and food vendors offering lamb delicacies, goat cheeses and other favorite local dishes. Live music will set the tone for the curious and artistic honeymooners.
Ready to relax and soak up the serene landscape, couples should visit the Yoga Garden in Taos, particularly the Mabel Dodge Luhan House. Known as a gathering place for artists and thinkers, the house is a peaceful retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life dating back to the 1920s. Located at the base of Sacred Mountain, the historic building is walking distance to the center of town, shops and galleries.
